Barton Sease: Landscaping Rocks come from quarries man, they go through grading machines to get uniformal sizes.i suppose you could ask to get a guided tour of one of those.
Raymon Fiene: a roch quarery , place that sells different gravels, sand, lava rock they sell by the yard
Debora Rinderer: Rocks for landscaping are often harvested (bought by the ton) from private land owners willing to sell their rock. They can't just go out and take it from public lands, like the national forests, without a special permit. Petrified wood can be found in places like petrified forests, which are usually national monuments or parks. You can't help yourself to rocks in parks or monuments. But you can collect rocks in national forests, if you just pick them up off the ground. You could get a guide book at a book store that will tell you where to find all kinds of cool rocks and minerals. But you still need to find out who owns the land, so you don't just go out and help yo! urself to someone else's property. You can phone the owner of a property where you want to go rockhounding. Look the owner's name up on the county assessor's website for the county you are in. The Bureau of Land Management also has a website where you can search for land ownership records. You could also join rockhounding clubs. They know the best places to go and how to contact the owners for access....Show more
Daren Ventrice: depends on the type of rock - some come from quarries/crushed stone, round river rocks come from rivers

Rocks of all shapes and sizes, from relatively uniform sized gravel in assorted colors all the way up to the dramatically large boulders! that can act as centerpieces in an installation.
Moises! Rupinski: The rounded rocks you are describing are typically river rock. They have been rounded from decades of tumbling in the water. They can be purchased from garden and landscape centers.http://www.classicrockinc.com/wp-content/gallery/g...
