However, it is NOT done using proper or valid astrological techniques .. astrologically this type of "horoscope" is garbage.The REAL meaning of horoscope is a map of the sky done up for a specific date, time and location .. as seen from Earth at that location."Horos" is Greek for "time/hour", and "scopos" means to "take a look at" .. so you are taking a look at the time.The time of a person's birth ... and their horoscope is actually their timed birth chart.The time a business is started, etc.It has nothing to do with the pop-astrology meaning of "horoscope".As for Ascendant, that is the exact degree of the zodiac that is rising (ascending) on the eastern horizon, as seen from a particular spot on earth at a specific time on a specific day.All horoscopes will have the Ascendant in them. Plus all t! he other 11 "houses". All the 12 zodiac sign,s and all 10 "planets" .. and the distances between the planets, which are called "aspects"."Degree?" The zodiac is a circle .. all circles are 360 degrees around them. The zodiac is broken into 12 signs, and each sign is 30 degrees wide.So the Ascendant is the specific degree of whatever sign was rising in the east.Sometimes the Ascendant is also called the Rising Sign, for obvious reasons.Laura is incorrect.The Ascendant is the most important house cusp in the chart . the 2nd most important is the Midheaven.The Sun is NOT a house (a house is an area of sky) .. the Sun is a body of light that moves through the sky (or so it appears from here on Earth) .. the Sun is one of 10 "planets" in your chart.The planets are more important than the house cusps.But for YOU .. well it depends on the specifics of your chart.There is NO rule-of-thumb that applies for everyone. Pluto is strongest my birth chart, Cancer is most important in ! my husband's chart, Venus is strongest in my first-husband's c! hart, and Neptune is strongest in my sister's chart.It depends on the individual person's chart. Sometimes it's a sign, sometimes it's a planet, sometimes it's an aspect configuration .. and it varies with every individual. Mikel Bethay: No, they don't mean the same. Horoscope refers to daily, weekly, monthly, annual (etc) previsions of the zodiac signs in general. This is usually based in someone's chart, based on the person's birthdate, hour of birth, place of birth etc (if you want a detailed or specific prevision) ... But you can also have a general viewing without all this info, only with the person's birthdate. Ascendant is the second most important house of your chart. Being the first your sun sign and the third your descendent.Astrological is related to astrology and is basically the study of the planets movements and positions which ! is believed to have influence in people's lives, affairs, personality, etc...
