Cortez Badolato: Thai, Arabic, Mexican, and Indian :D
Davina Shindler: @Mark, yay!Loooolll that's funny, I wish I would have seen! But I don't think that can top afreekan mansa... xD.
Jesse Japak: Italian, I would make a good Italian.I partake in all the above, plus Jamaican, and others
Leann Villalta: Wow, i've never come across a hispanic person becoming offended if they were called hispanic? Afterall they are hispanic so I don't see a problem with calling someone what they are
Christy Tirabassi: Also, I'm fully aware that Latino/a and Hispanic are not racial terms.
Elinore Schlinker: The indigenous people of America are called Native Americans or simply "Indians". It doesn't matter if they're from North or South America, they're still Native Americans. Before the European (Spanish, Portuguese, English etc) conquest, there were nothing but Native Americans from North to South. "Latino" is just the generic term for people of any race or mixt! ure who live or have ancestral connections to a "Latin American" country (so called because of the Spanish and Portuguese influences taken there from Europe). While it is true that many Latinos have at least some Native American ancestry, there are also those who are fully white, as well as those who who black and mixed black. Black people were taken from Africa by the Spanish, Portuguese, English, French and were introduced to the New World to work as slaves. They are not native to the Americas. The Asian connection is based on the theory that prehistoric people from Asia migrated across what was once a land bridge (now The Bering Strait) that was believed to have connected Asia to Alaska. This ancient migration occurred over thousands of years and eventually they became the people we now know as Native Americans...Show more
Karl Samiec: I know I make Canadians mad for them to report me so much and get all my accounts suspended. Surprised this one has lasted this lon! g.
Julee Lanham: I'm Guatemalan American (Mayan). I can! see how some might be offended, if someone refers to them as Hispanic as their race/ethnicity, since many people from Mexico, Central, and South America also have Indigenous or African ancestry (Hispanic originally referred to Spaniards and many of them had ancestors that suffered by the hands of the Spaniards and their legacies). Although, I don't see nothing wrong when referring to their culture as Hispanic, since their culture is Hispanic. Others don't like the label since it lumps them with people they don't have much in common with. I do get annoyed when people tell to me that I'm Hispanic just because I'm Guatemalan American (but I'm different since my culture is not Hispanic, so this question is not really for me). Some say that calling them Hispanic is like calling an African American an Anglo.
Bianca Lannier: Well.. many people in Latin America call themselves 'hispanos'... I mean it just means tat we come from a Spanish-speaking country. I dont know w! hats so offensive about it.Hispanic AND Latino are not RACIAL TERMS. You should know this by now, it isn't a race. Ever heard of fully black hispanics.. the afrohispanics/afrolatinos?
Norine Lomonte: They're called Indians because Christopher Columbus, who named them that, thought he had landed in the East Indies.
Hyman Coren: I can't remember
Karie Mavle: All Mediterranean foods, and I also like Mexican and Chinese as well.
Loriann Carrigan: Amerindians
Verena Koop: Hispanic is Latino/aon the east coast we call them hispanic on the west they call them latino
Chris Wilczewski: (American) Chinese.
Fritz Sisomphou: Whose culture do they share? Why are they called Indians? Who were called "Indians" first, Asia Indians or America Indians?
Caleb Chapman: Probably at least a year. Most of the time when people "ask" [note the quotes] questions that are stupid, I am more saddened (sometimes amused) than angry.Edit: No, I don't thin! k it's a stupid question at all. I can't even remeber the user's name,! but a 2 or 3 weeks ago, this user came completely unglued (somehow I see that user grunting like Cher Lloyd - "HNNNH!"). (He or she had sort of an Internet meltdown.) It was really funny watching. I hope he or she didn't burst a blood vessel....Show more
Granville Stray: @Harry, yeah I know, but still sometimes people really irritate me with their ignorance : but you're right, its not like they can really do anything.
Trena Berum: I took a workshop on Chicano studies a while back and the professor explained that since Hispanic was a term used to clump all Latinos, many people are offended by it. I think the fact that it was made up by a white person (I'm almost positing he said a president (Reagan?) coined it), made the word even more unlikable. Since a government figure made up the word, people got all paranoid and dissected it and came up with his panic. Obviously, "his" referring to "the man" or government. It's really a lot to think about but I'm sure a ! lot of people nowadays are just taught not to like the word rather than coming with all of this themselves. Deep stuff!
Merna Fauset: The indigenous people of america are the 566 native nations, who've been here over 50,000 years. Africans are from africa, Asians are from Asia, and latinos simple mean they come from a spanish-speaking country. As to who were called "indians" first, well, at the time columbus started calling native americans "indians", the country of India was called " Hindustan", and their people called " hindus". They didn't become "indians" for several hundred years....Show more
Evelin Turlich: Natives
Russell Mckinzie: Mexican food, Chinese food and Japanese food.
Ollie Hamiel: Both terms mean different things. Latino refers to anybody that speaks a romance language (spanish, italian, french, portuguese, etc.) Hispanic refers to the people that were colonized by the Spanish. The word hispanic comes from the word hispania. But real! ly the terms are interchangeable.
Providencia Jalbert: My last ti! me is probably yesterday when "Sensless" Masayaki was runnin around dissing Koreans XO! How about you? (:
Janeen Perona: Lasagna followed closely by chinese food.
Lou Ravelo: Not a Latino/Hispanic but I'll throw my 2 cents in. Hispanic/latino was a term created by the us government to categorize recent immigrants from south America who did not appear white, but also protested being associated with blacks ---I believe this occured around the 1960sthe terms Hispanic/Latino is a north American concept, people from south America identify with either the country or if they are forced to do so by race---they will claim Spanish ancestry, since they can't call themselves white in America---they say Hispanic to differetiate themselves from blacks
Lucien Hellerman: Probably Mongolian or Israeli restaurants.
Clinton Migliori: What I don't like about the word Hispanic and Latino is that people think its a racial term when Latin Americans are very diverse. Not ev! ery "Hispanic and Latino" is the stereotyped tanned skinned, dark hair and eyes.
Rolanda Merritt: I'm not real big on seafood or most pasta dishes. Other than that, I'm pretty egalitarian in my tastes.
Antone Youla: @Mark Haha yeah me too...! I hope you don't think this is a dumb question xD.
Wally Gower: I'm taking a course on Mexican & Central American history and a few weeks ago, the professor asked the class whether they preferred the term Latino/a or Hispanic. Many of the students became really upset, saying how the term Hispanic was offensive and racist. Only two of the students, a girl of Cuban descent and a guy from Costa Rica, said it didn't make a difference to them whether they were referred to as Latino/a or Hispanic and that both terms were acceptable to them. Just this past week, the Costa Rican guy asked me if I was Hispanic, so he obviously doesn't have an issue with the term. When I asked my boyfriend, who's from Mexico, if he found the t! erm Hispanic offensive, he said no and seemed really confused as to why! someone would be offended by it.The area where I used to live had many people of Mexican, Cuban, and Puerto Rican descent and never encountered the term being an issue among anyone there. However, since so many of the students became so visibly offended and angry about the term, it makes me wonder if there are many more people who feel similarly....Show more
Sherrill Botting: I like Italian, Greek and other Mediterranean food. Polish food is good, too.
Nancy Mansell: Hello,I love East Indian followed by Greek and Mexican.Cheers,Michael Kelly...Show more
Karl Jantzen: a minute ago. idiot religious folks quoting that book only they believe in. what's up with that?
Sonya Volcko: english and yes its an ethnicity just like those others
Adam Momaya: research it
Ronald Moehr: Italian -- it is fresh foods made quickly with simple ingredients. Vietnamese and Thai are close but the simple dishes get to my gut faster !
Geraldo Mccalla: It! alian, carribeans, American
Bettye Arre: I'm not too offended by the terms "Hispanic" or "Latino". Just I think that the different races that represent Latinos should be identified, because I mean there are black, indigenous, mestizo, and white Latinos; so I like to think of myself as a mestizo-Latino because that's what I am. My race is mestizo and my cultural heritage is Latino.
Raleigh Lufkin: @Aw yeauh hahahahah, yeah people are reporting like crazy these days .-.@ Daniel, hahah yeah... it just gets old after they just repeatedly bash people for no reason :P
Dick Baumgarten: I bet most of them go for Italian pizza or German hot-dogs... but most stuff served in America is a diluted version of the original to better suit the American taste.
Guy Bonamico: Tacos, yum. Mexican food is THE BEST!I just found out that the Chinese food we have here in the US isn't eaten in China...
Carlee Tangaro: @Dog...... I am a christian... :)?
Timmy Bu! stard: Native Americans. Native Americans are only called Indians or In! dios because Chris Columbus thought he landed in India but he landed in the Americas and called the Native Caribbean Americans West Indians.
Isreal Kochheiser: I personally think Hispanic is the MORE correct term as it refers to one who speaks Spanish as a primary language.Latinos is not a sensible term because Hispanics are not Latin. Latin was the language of Ancient Rome, which was in Italy. So how the hell can somebody from Puerto Rico, who is mixed with African, Taino, and Spanish (Espana) be considered Latin?
