Donnie Bolio: Everybody is different, some people don't want to be with their pets when they are put to sleep. They just don't think they can handle it or something. I feel like you, that it's the right thing to do to stay with your pet during those last few moments. Tell your parents how you feel & that it is important to YOU to be with her. It would be nice to have it done at home, but if your folks are adamant they want this done at the Vet's, tell them you want to go & be with him. They wouldn't have to be there, just you. I hope they respect your wishes, so you can be there for your old guy. So sorry.
Fritz Hawkey: I have a beautiful Border collie x, Candy, who is fantastically trained my me (basic heel work and agility). I do not live with her as where I live I do not have the space for her or a garden, it is upsetting to me, but one day I will have a house with a garden which she can run in.Anyways, she lives with my mum, step-dad and siblings, plus their ot! her dog, Buddy, and 3 small animals.Today I was eating a sandwich and the other dog, Buddy, was watching me, and so was Candy, they were watching happily. Buddy is a bit temperamental when it comes to food and basically if you do not share he gets p!ssy and barks. He started barking after about 10 minutes, when my older brother came out looked at my dog, Candy, and said, Candy attack him. She then got up and went for him, poor Buddy didn't know what to do (he is 8 and has arthritis coming in his back leg). I was horrified, Candy is 3 and I do not want her to know things like that. I have a child, what if someone commands her to attack my daughter? Is it possible to re-train her not to do it, or possible to un-train her the command. My brother recons she has known it for ages, but I am adamant she hasn't because she is my dog and I have taught her everything she knows (I hand raised her from 4 weeks as her mother passed and I started training her at 8 weeks). I did not teac! h her this, so when I asked my mum about it, she simply said t! hat my brother did. I warned him I would set her to attack him (stupid I know). Then I gave him a slap for turning my dog in my words a 'weapon'. I am considering lobbying my local council to allow me to have her at my property and take her into the field every day so she can do her 'business'. How can I untrain her this command? I have never had to un-train a dog before so I am not sure how to go about it. I wanted her to be for agility, and she is due to start in the summer (she is 3), but I am not sure now I feel like my brother has ruined my dog....Show more
Raul Lushbaugh: I would look for something with less items in them, as most of those have things that the dog could be reacting to. If I had to pick it would be 2 or 4 but I know that flex and beet is in both so I would have to pass on those also. In those the first 2 in both are a meat protein. followed by grains.
Alisa Kaleiwahea: only way to really untrain her would probably be to have your brother! command it then have you punish her for listening. then when she stops, have someone else command it and you punish her. it's cruel but if you are truly concerned someone could use it against you then it's probably the only way. just put her in time out or something like that once a day for responding to that command. also probably praise her for responding to a different command your brother gives. so she understands attack is bad but all others are good....Show more
Shaquita Wernicki: Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMhxy A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training co! urse....Show more
Malcom Bourek: Out of those choices I would sug! gest 2 it has real meat and seems to have less preservatives than number 4. But half of that stuff I have no idea what it is.I know you don't want suggestions but you can waste allot of money trying to find cures when the vet could tell you a cure.I have always heard that lamb (not lamb meal) is a better base for allergies in dogs...Show more
Ambrose Mumma: This could be fertilizer, slug bait or other thing, any of which could be poisonous to dogs. Dogs being poisoned by these things is not uncommon, and I recall when I was using slug baits I was very careful to not get the ones that looked like food pellets. I also hope this isn't your landlord being evil, it sounds more like less than pet councious yard treatments to me. I suggest not letting your dogs anywhere NEAR that grass ever again.
Daren Ventrice: it is not hard to groom it just requires a lot of it and is very delicate
Robt Heemstra: Again I am not looking for suggestions... Just rate these foods! please!
Burt Cheevers: I would rate the 4th food as the best because the first two ingredients are chicken and chicken meal. That is very good unless your dog is allergic to chicken. There is no corn, which is also good because it is hard to digest and could cause the allergy problem.
Robin Marchione: You made me cry reading this, you are a really good person. I just had to put my Mom's dog down last week. They had been together for 22 years. She had gotten to the point where she too was confused and no longer eating or drinking. Mom and I were with her, Mom held her in her arms and comforted her. I think you should definitely be with her, she deserves to have someone she loves, and who obviously loves her hold her and help ease her confusion. I truly believe that even if they are confused, they still know familiar people are with them. I think it is sad that the rest of your family does not have the respect for her that you do. If you want her to be at home! , I think you should definitely stand up not just for yourself, but for! her. If they won't let you bring her home, have them take you to her so that you can be with her. Good luck, my thoughts are with you.
Leisa Brodnex: Blue buffalo is by far the best dog food out there...and it's not too pricey. stay away from anything that has cornmeal in it, that is the worst thing you can give your dog.
Gordon Showes: I don't really think that you can un-train a dog. But i do think that the best thing that you can do is scold her every time she attacks another dog/Buddy. hopefully, she will get the idea that she isn't supposed to attack. she sounds like she is a really smart dog and can be un-taught to do something fairly easily. good luck! :)
James Langmyer: My 13 year old dog has an enlarged heart and artheritus causing it to be confused, and not eat or drink. A decision has been unaminously made by my family to put it down. It is currently at the vets and is apparently sitting up looking around. The vet gave my family the option to p! ut it down there or at our home. My family have said that they want it done there and they will not visit. Something doesnt feel right to me, it feels like dropping her off in a strange place and having her be alone for hours before being killed is an insult to her. Do you think, as a teenager, i should stand up and have her here for it?...Show more
Antonia Mogg: Yes, it is all u have to do. Brushing it is no challenge if u start this at an early age and while doing it give ur dog lots of praise and treats. Since this is a long-haired dog, u should use a metal bristled brush though this might hurt the dog. I recommend the Zoom Groom brush it has rubber spikes which makes it gentle to groom long or short haired dogs. U must take this dog once a month to the groomer to get its nails and hair clipped, teeth brushed, and hair combed, and bathed with shampoo.A long haired groomer may be easier because its fur is not as profuse as a Pomeranian. With a Pom, u'd have to groom! it daily though for 15 min., while a LH Chi. u'd have to twice a week ! for 30 min.Let me tell ya something though. The hardness doesn't depend on the coat, it really is actually if ur dog likes it or not. Because if ur dog doesn't, it could be from whimpering to biting u and the brush. If ur dog likes it though, then u just have to brush the dog, really no challenge at all.HOPE I HELPED!...Show more
Kirk Coolbeth: Somone she knows and loves should be with her when she is put to sleep. So you need to call the vet, and arrange a ride for yourself to get to the vets.I was just 16 when I had to have my first dog put to sleep. My parents were at work and the dog went into a crisis (he did have cancer). I had no intention of making my dog wait for my parents to come home, I drove him to the vet and was with him when he was put to sleep.I am always with my pets when they are put to sleep....Show more
Billie Bratchett: Pomeranians could be groomed daily with a brush. That works. If someone isn't willing to brush it every day, they could j! ust take it to a groomer. However, that takes more money. Choose whichever way is more convenient. Also, I would choose a Pomeranian, because they are fluffballs.P.S. Pomeranians are related to Chihuahuas, so they technically are long-haired Chihuahuas.
Shan Lanen: you can't, what's done is done.
Todd Stogner: Personally, if I can't pronounce it, I'll try not to eat it. I cannot recommend feeding any of the commercial varieties of meat-flavored baked paste with chemicals added. Instead, why not feed your dog actual food? The dogâs natural diet is raw meat on the bone. Try it. The dog will love it, the diet will help him teethe properly, satisfy his need to chew, keep his teeth clean and his feces innocuous.http://www.rawmeatybones.comhttp://www.rawfed.comhttp://www.rawfeddogs.nethttp://www.rawfeeding.nethttp://www.barxx.comhttp://www.rawlearning.comhttp://pets.groups.yahoo.com/groups.rawfeeding/...Show more
Clay Lipira: I agree with themehme. The onl! y way to un do it is to use a "punishment" to get her to stop. I would ! suggest a spray bottle. Anytime she behaves in a manner not to your approval, you mist her right in the face. It's irritating as hell for animals and they quickly associate the spray with that particular behavior. Simple water will work and it's not actually harmful to her. Plus, she won't immediatly associate you with it.Just to point something else out, you need to talk seriously with your brother about teaching her anything since it teaches her that he is the one in charge. If you plan on eventually taking her back, you'll end up finding that she may no longer associate you with being her "alpha". I also have a herding dog, a GShepherd. And even though he is a family pet, where he's concerned, I am his alpha. He follows basic commands from my husband and children, but does not ever do anything commanded by anyone else. Even my mom who is over several times a week. Nor do I encourage it. I just wanted to give you a heads up that untraining her may not be the only thing y! ou have to overcome. The sooner you can get her back, the better....Show more
Romana Stiman: 2 or 4! Because of the fat, 2 & 4 use chicken fat, the others are poultry fat, which leaves a HUGE window as to what poultry they are referring to!! Plus both 2 & 4 have two meats in the beginning ingredients, and since they go by weight, you will be (your dog) getting a food with more meat then the others. Also, chicken is easier to digest! Good Luck, hope I helped!! I just read 2 & 4 again, I would choose 4!!!! I think I know what brand it is, because I'm forever researching and reading dog food label's.4 best213...Show more
Zelma Casebier: you cant, once its done, its done
Eva Lichlyter: You are a compassionate, caring person. I'm not sure of the reason that your family does not want to spend the final minutes with a long time pet, but I would never be able to drop any animal off at the vet and just leave. I'd try to express my feelings with your family members ! and see if they could see your side. When we had to put our 10 yr old ! Rottweiler, Brandy to sleep last year, the vet came to the house at a time that everyone could be with her. It was sad of course but we all felt that she was with those who loved her best in a place where she had lived and played her whole life. Good luck to you and my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dog.
Hunter Osterberger: OMG! i am going through the same thing. I have to put my dog down but I will tell you what I did last time. I too was scared and like your family last time i wanted the vet to do it and me not be there but someone better than me said no he deserves better than that. So with all my pain I went over there and i said goodbye I told my vet I did not want to be in the room when he closed his eyes for the last time but I did hold him and say goodbye and handed him to the vet and it was done immediately in the next room. sometimes we need to be reminded of our duties and i thank my friend for that. If your family does not want to see your dog! ask them to take you for you to see him one last time.
Asley Quickle: Lets go with brands Iams number one. Had goldens and it was a good food highly recommended by my vetScience diet good pricey as iams basically the same but Iams was good enough and other breeders recommended the iams but science diet is good tooAnd purina They really put a lot of research in there foods and think they do a pretty good job. Those are the top three in my book. raw foods in meat can give your dog the famous salmonella bacteria and that coli. So i don't recommend raw meat hope that helps dave. P/s. to not upset your dog digestive system it best to change foods slowly....Show more
Clement Viscarro: Well if your dog is suffering from allergies i would not feed him any food with grains. Try either "Orijen", "Acana", "Taste of the Wild", "Evo", or "Wellness Core". I do know that Flax, Rice, and Yeast can cause allergies in some dogs and noticed that all those foods you listed has e! ither Flax, rice, and yeast in it. And of the foods i recommended, "Tas! te of the Wild" is the least expensive.
Tory Clapper: I do not like any of these ingrediants.* Chicken is one of the most common source of allergic reactions from dogs* In any ingredient, meats should be the 1st and 2nd on the list (The most quantity ends up first)* TOO MUCH GRAINS! Dogs are CARNIVORES!I recommend the BARF diet for allergy prone dogs + vegetables.http://www.gopetsamerica.com/dog-health/barf-faq.a...http://www.wellvet.com/feedingdogs.htmlIf you cannot afford quality dog food, I don't think you should own a dog.The ingredients you listed sound pretty poor.I don't care, I'm listing my choices for you and your dog's benefit.* Holistic dog food brands are VERY recommended for lower grains and more QUALITY meats* Brands : Solid Gold, Orijen, and Blue Buffalo are VERY good....Show more
Moises Rupinski: I don't think your brother has ruined Candy. The simple thing is to never ask for the command again. Or, in a safe environment, turn 'attack' into a diff! erent action. 'Attack' now means just that. 'Attack' when you start working with her could be -- oh, I don't know, stand on your back legs. You could do this by encouraging her to stand on her back legs, marking that with a "Good!" and a treat. Then, as she gets that down, get her to do it and calmly say "Attack." as she's standing on her legs. I say calmly because I imagine when your brother tells her to attack, he says it in a very excited or threatening way....Show more
Catheryn Barringer: Realistically most dogs are allergic to: Beef, chicken, lamb, dairy, other poultry. Food 4 or food 1 wouldn't be bad for a non-allergic dog, however, it contains chicken/lamb a common allergen. Are there any fish, venison, or rabbit based foods available in your price range. Food 3 contains vitamin c-- dogs synthesize their own so this is a questionable ingredient to add.Food 2 adds brewers yeast which is not nutritionally warrantedTo my friend above: dogs are OMNIVORES, like peo! ple meaning they can eat a bit of everything without it hurthing them. ! CATS are obligate carnivores. Grains are not bad for animals. An all meat diet isn't actually a natural diet for a canine at all....Show more
Elvin Mannheimer: People deal with such things in different ways. If the majority of your family wants to take it to the vet i think your should respect that. That doesn't mean that YOU can't be there at the vet when it passes on though.BTW, I'm sorry to hear about all of this.
Hai Biggart: If I had to choose one to feed my dog it would be the 2nd one!But once you can afford it you could switch to Nutro, EVO, Innova, Blue Buffalo, or Orijen:)
Clark Lachowski: How queer - the people recommending good foods get a thumbs down and the one answer recommending a crap commercial dog food gets a thumbs up. Are the pet food reps lurking tonight? This is the second question this has happened on tonight. Anyway, I try and stay away from foods that have "meal" as the first ingredient, and definitely stay away from beet pulp. It's! a cheap, high-sugar filler. I mean, I'm looking at all four of your ingredient lists and they all look like garbage foods to me. The one saving grace is that I'm not seeing any corn here. If I had to rate a best one I'd go with the second or fourth ones as the best, because they don't contain citric acid (which can cause gas in dogs) and they list chicken and not "meal" or "by-product" as the main ingredient....Show more

Booker Warlick: Is all i have to do is brush it everyday? Because im willing to do that. Or do i have to brush it and take it to a groomer frequently? Would it be easier to groom a long haired chihuahua? Please answer.
Shane Getler: Sound like a good food but it is never enough. I have a puppy myself and a vet told me that the best thing you can ever do to your puppy or adult dog is to get multi-vitamin supplements. I am currently using Pet Bou! nce, since my dog is taking Pet Bounce I have seen a great improvement ! in his energy and he look very healthy. Here is the link to their website. CHECK IT OUT TODAY.
Charissa Bichsel: Ok honey you have left some things out...like is the dog on any kind of medication for the heart problem and the arthritis or has the medication gotten to the point where it's drugging the dog out so bad that their quality of life just isn't there anymore. I also feel like if they just dropped that poor dog off and aren't going to be there with her in her final minutes that's cold. Most people wouldn't miss the opportunity to be with the dog, no matter the location, to let them know that the reason that they are doing this is because they love them. You need to take a stand and let your family know that they should be there with the dog because you know that she's going to be scared and lonely when the vet goes to put her to sleep.
Kaylee Schmittou: I understand how you feel. But honestly please don't feel this way. The vet will put her to sleep in! a nice clean calm environment. Your family members can be present to hold her and say goodbye. Also it is much better to have her put to sleep at the vets, because very shortly after she dies, her body will not hold her fluids any more. I mean like her bowels will just empty out and the vets need to deal with that very quickly by putting some kind of wadding into her anus. Please let your family do this at the vets. She is not being killed off in an evil way. I have had dogs put to sleep at the vets and they are so gentle and caring the way they do it.
Bob Pucella: Well, it´s always hard when you have to make that final decision. BUT I would never ever let one of my furry friends go through this alone. Of course it is hard to watch the vet putting your dog to sleep but I would feel far worse to know that my dog had be a good friend for so many years and had to spend those final minutes alone with strangers. If I would be in your place I would go to the vet and hold ! her when she crosses the rainbow bridge. I don´t know how old you are ! but you sound to me like a person who really loves your dog and cares a great deal about her. And I think what "doesn´t feel right" to you is the fact that your dog will all alone. I wouldn´t suggest to bring it back home but be with it at the vets. The following poem is from the dogs point of view and I always have to cry when I read it - but I think it really fits your situation. The Last BattleIf it should be that I grow frail and weakAnd pain should keep me from my sleep,Then will you do what must be done,For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.You will be sad I understand,But don't let grief then stay your hand,For on this day, more than the rest,Your love and friendship must stand the test.We have had so many happy years,You wouldn't want me to suffer so.When the time comes, please, let me go.Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,Only, stay with me till the endAnd hold me firm and speak to meUntil my eyes no longer see.I know in time you will agre! eIt is a kindness you do to me.Although my tail its last has waved,From pain and suffering I have been saved.Don't grieve that it must be youWho has to decide this thing to do;We've been so close -- we two -- these years,Don't let your heart hold any tears.-- Unknown
Rodrigo Pezley: Sounds like you need to enroll in a basic training class. Start with something like puppy kinder garden or something like that. It will get you started at least. Then see if the trainer can recommend a book that would give you the basics and get you going. Training is a life long process and something you need to do all along the dogs life. At 10-11 weeks she is not marking territory she is not house broken and will not be for months. Treat training is fine but as you see they do not always mind when you do not have a treat. I do use them but not all the time. Pay off like a slot machine treat at times but not every time. Try a command like kennel up or something for her to get in the crat! e. Keep it simple and nothing that you would use for anything else. I c! onsider the basics stuff like. Sit Stay Down Off Come Crate up Collar up and basic house and human manners. Good luck with you pup...Show more
Marcellus Yoshimori: Yes poms take regularly grooming on the part of their owners. It isn't mandatory to take to a groomer but you would need to be sure nails are short, check anal glands, clean ears besides brushing/combing yourself. LH Chis have much less hair than poms so there is obviously less grooming. Both have a long list of hereditary health issues you need to know about & research the breeder before buying.
Alma Twomey: You are very wise for being such a young person - kudos to you!IF and that's a big IF your dog is beyond treatment (dogs can live a full life with an enlarged heart. My Pom was diagnosed with an enlarged heart at 7 and lived very comfortably for another 7 years. And, MANY dogs have arthritis which is manageable with meds), then it would be nice to put him down at home. If that is not an opt! ion, then your family or someone from your family should be there with him. You owe that to your old friend so that he is with someone he loves. Please don't leave him with strangers as he leaves this life. Go there and sat goodbye to him in a proper way. Hold him as he goes. It will be one of the hardest things you have ever done - but you will always know you did the RIGHT things!Sending your hugs :-(
Ricardo Rozelle: I would chose either 1 or 3. Anything that lists multiple forms of the same ingredient (ex: Ground Rice, Rice Flour, Rice Bran like #3) is just another way of saying that there is a lot of that ingredient in it. I like #1 the best because it is made with brown rice (whole grain, more fiber than white rice) and has flax seed in it, which is good for the skin and coat because it contains omega 3's. Food #3 does have glucosamine and chondroitin in it which is good for the joints.. especially good if your dog is a breed that is prone to hip/joint probl! ems, like larger breeds are. To get the largest amount of protein you w! ant to go with a food that lists the protein in a meal form (such as lamb meal) as the FIRST ingredient. Mealed protein is ground dehydrated meat, which since the ingredients are listed by weight means that the meat itself (not water in the meat, which adds to the weight) is the #1 ingredient prior to cooking. If the protein source is just listed as, lets say chicken, it may weigh more before cooking, but once that meat is cooked and the water is mostly gone it may very well weigh out to be the 2nd ingredient by weight.I wouldn't choose #2 or #4, because chicken is another form of protein that is not well tolerated by a lot of dogs. I just did a bunch of research for my own dog on this because she has the same issues: very itchy but also lots of gas and loose stools on occasion. I was feeding her food from the grocery stores, brands that I thought were good because I saw commercials for them and whatnot - like Iams (which used to actually be a quality food, not now) and Pur! ina (which tends to have some scary ingredients, like "meat and bone meal" -- no thanks, you can keep your mystery meat). Until I did my research and weeks of debating what to do finally decided on not buying brands that I was familiar with. They advertise, which means they are spending money on putting themselves out there and printing colorful bags for their food instead of spending it on putting quality ingredients in their food. I decided to buy from a farm/home store or a pet store.I know you explicitly said no suggestions, but I am in your same situation. I am also a full time student who lives on their own and works a full time job. Money is tight, believe me...lol. I switched my dogs to Diamond Naturals, lamb meal and rice formula. 40# for around $30, which is around 75 cents per lb, which is actually cheaper than the grocery store brands which come in at around $1 per lb (which is probably partly to due to the advertising or flashy packaging costs) . Total turnarou! nd - my dog seemed less itchy, and the digestive issues stopped. Anyway! s, I hoped this helped. Those above clearly haven't researched this topic. Meal does sound sketchy until you know what it really is. Just make sure when you switch them over, do it very gradually - over at least a month of mixing the 2 foods together.**Rice is not going to make your dog constipated unless your dog is afraid of drinking water. It is fiber, which keeps everything moving in a regular manner. Unlike corn, dogs can tolerate rice. Dogs are not carnivores, they are omnivores. Even if you were to cook your dog's food yourself, it is recommended that you add a bit of "roughage" like SOME raw veggies, to keep the digestive tract moving. Everything in moderation.**MAIN ingredients are what is listed before the fat source.... ingredients like died beet pulp and the vitamins and minerals (that some uneducated people may not be able to pronounce, which does not make them bad for you or your pet) that are listed after the fat source are not main ingredients. They make up ! a tiny portion of the food.... aka they are not fillers....Show more
Mario Stricklan: Your brother needs shooting! OMG why do 'some' men never grow up mentally past the age of 10years old?Tape the command ( brother will oblige....or you can do what you like to him...we won't tell)It is often better to do this with a harness on her rather than a collar,as when you pull on a collar it is a very sensitive part of the neck, each pull releases adrenalin which can cause a reaction......and you don't need more reaction from her.Don't look at her and don't speak to her, put her on a lead, ideally tied around your waist ( so hands free), use a muzzle if you need to, press play,as soon as she lunges your weight will stop her and you need a very well timed 'NO' or 'BAD' or 'LEAVE IT' and as soon as she stops or looks at you praise, obviously if she doesn't stop or look you don't praise and you have some work to do with her.As for Buddy, your brother owes him BIG TIME so you ne! ed to buy a BIOFLOW dog collar for him which your brother will pay for ! they cost £35 look online you can't get the in shops, it will help with his arthritus, stop the pain and enable him to get around far better, save lots of money re: vet bills and stop Buddy being fed painkillers which will do him no good...but get BIOFLOW they are brill.Long story but: my dog was born without hip joints, built muscle up swimming, training etc so she worked, didn't know until she was 2y when I had her xrayed, International agility dog at 2y, champion, crufts, olympia etc vet said PTS will never work again, will not be walking in 6 months, I chose not to, swimming got her fit again and Bioflow kept her pain free, she competed until she was 7y at International Level, won everything, I retired her, she died last year aged 17 years old and only went off her legs the last couple of weeks...........the only thing she had in all that time was a Bioflow collar....Show more
Lewis Ranft: You couldn't pay me to feed any of my dogs any of these foods. The first ! 3 ingredients should be real meat, not meat meals or by-products. The main meats should be fish, beef, or lamb. Chicken can cause allergies in dogs. Rice is a filler! And rice is used for dogs who have loose stools or upset stomach, too much rice (which these have) will cause hard stools in your dog. Beet pulp is also a filler. You have two fillers! With two fillers within the main ingredients all you're getting is fillers. You're not going to fill your dog up, therefore you are going to pay MORE in the long run by how much your dog will eat of it compared to a wholesome protein filled food, or your dog will starve. These are just terrible foods. Well better than a lot... But still I'd find a different food....Show more
