How to stay skinny as a vegetarian?

Jefferson Sarson: being vegetarian is very easy to stay 'skinny,' just eat fewer carbs and DO SOME EXERCISE.

Shon Almquist: Easy--simply up the intake of the complex carbs in your diet!Having a stir fry with rice? Use brown rice instead.Having a pasta? Use a whole grain wheat or brown rice pasta.Quinoa is an excellent grain source that also has a good amount of protein. Strain it through cheesecloth if you can't find a good rinsed variety, but this grain is excellent with veggies.Add more vegetables to your diet. Watch out for things like potatoes which are actually starchy carbs. Go easy on things like butter and sour cream or use lower fat substitutes. Also, you can make a move towards the vegan end of the spectrum and you'll likely see some fat calories cut out of your diet as well. For instance, cut back on the amount of cheese main dishes like pizza, lasagna and enchiladas you eat and instead use it more of an accent such as on veggie tacos (not exactly going veg! an but you can see how calories would fall away).A few words on the vegan intro in my experience... I became much much too skinny and was becoming ill and was fatigued all the time from a lack of fat in my diet. Even now that I am mostly veggie (eating dairy, eggs and sometimes fish or other protein), I still have a hard time getting enough fat in my diet. Your body needs a certain amount of fat to absorb things and to put off its electrical impulses correctly. It's all about balance here. You may also need to consider a form of supplementation especially if you drastically change your diet suddenly. One that many people overlook is adequate calcium intake (which is an ion and also very important in your body's functions such as muscle control and heartbeat). You'll want to make sure that any supplement you take is in line with your other dietary views and intakes in regards to what it is made or derived from....Show more

Travis Colomb: Don't eat so many carbs! Eat more of a balanced diet with protien, lots of veggies, fruit, nuts, etc. And to get rid of that belly (I'm getting one too cuz im so lazy :) ) I exercise and do ab exercises. I also play tennis every night and do pull ups. I feel great!Vegetarian

Torrie Weissenbach: Skinny Vegetarian

Rosalva Steinmann: Fruits are sweeter and take less effort to get ready, generally, so I tend to eat more fruits. Unless were talking caned, but still, you usually heat up the veggies, so another vote for fruit.

Barrett Zheng: It's not the carbs. It's the calories. Carbs are not bad for you. Whole grains, fruits and ! bean have a ton of carbs, they're some of the healthiest foods you can eat. Reduce your calories, start exercising if you don't now and start drinking more water.

Jannie Ariola: - Increase your fiber intake by eating whole foods & whole grains instead of white grains & processed foods. For example, eat brown rice instead of white rice. Eat legumes and beans instead of Tofurky. Think colorful vegetables when it comes to including vegetables in meals. - Eat less fat. Good fats are better, like olive oil and nuts, but still watch your calories since they're higher in calories.- Reduce your sugar intake. White sugar has no nutritional value and increase your blood sugar levels which can lead to health problems later on. Try to replace it with Agave Nectar or raw sugar (rock sugar, brown sugar, etc.), or fruits are even better. - If you drink, reduce or eliminate alcohol intake. The term "Beer belly" is not a myth. Beer does give you a belly!- Exercise at least 3-4 times ! a week. Start with 15 minutes to 30 minutes and increase the amount to ! gain more muscles to burn more fat. Even walking can be a great exercise! For example, yoga, walking, jogging, elliptical, swimming, etc. Combining cardiovascular exercises (i.e. walking/jogging) and core strengthening (i.e. yoga/pilates/weights) can be helpful in getting rid of belly weight....Show more
