Examples of how American cars are made cheaply?

Gale Hartt: it all depends on if you r talking about new or old american cars

Julee Lanham: An example I have run across recently is the coolant manifold on the top of the radiator in a friend's 2000 Ford Focus. The coolant manifold is made of PVC or similar and it had cracked, causing large coolant loss (it sprayed coolant over the top of the engine). That can lead to serious engine damage and this (very common, apparently) failure could have been prevented simply by using a better plastic, like ABS.Plastic seems to be a big downfall in American makes. GM and Ford have replaced cast metal intake manifolds with plastic manifolds recently, and in the versions (like the GM V6 and V8 manifolds) that carry coolant through the manifold that can lead to catastrophe - see the first and second sources....Show more

Hong Hunkin: For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/axHmIPeople believe that American cars aren't built well because, in America, we ! use cheap substitutes when building cars. For example, cars in the 1920s used to be very sturdy and durable cars. They would literally last a lifetime. Now, car manufacturers have found it to be much cheaper to replace most of this metal with plastic. This makes the car much less safe. There is also this thing called planned obsolescence, where large corporations purposely don't build the product to the best of its ability just so that you, as a consumer, must spend more money to buy replacement parts or a new car altogether. Outside of the United States, many car manufacturers, such as Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, are not as cheaply made and are therefore much more efficient/reliable vehicles. Hope that this answered your question....Show more

Adelle Weight: Cheaply Made Cars

Caryl Mclaen: Everything is plastic instead of real leather or rubber.

Sonya Volcko: Supposedly it's supposed to really mess up your engine to the point that it can only be repaired.Movies! and TV shows always how this gag (Kingpin, Delta Farce) (Marr! ied With Children). However, Mythbusters did this and they busted it because the sugar did nothing.lol

Matt Tiry: Truthfully in the current global market there is no such thing as an American car. Parts and sub assemblies come from all over the world. Your very premise is false!

Jed Porada: Assuming we are talking about normal commuter cars here is how I see it. The quality of most American cars was really bad from the mid 70's through the late 80's. The quality started to pick up in the 90's and now they are better deal than the imports in my opinion. The Korean cars aren't that great and the Japanese brands now feel they can charge more because they have the reputation of being reliable. American pick up trucks and heavy equipment has always been the best, no one can argue against that. Muscle cars are better than ricers too. European cars are a completely different situation, most of the entry level models aren't sold here and the few that have been have gener! ally sucked, VW bettle is the exception that proves the rule. The luxury European cars we have are meant to babied and are always in the shop. I had a 300E for a while and it was nice car but I was always fixing stupid little things like burnt out motors and bad sensors. My father has the same problem with his Mercedes. My friends jetta is another needy car....Show more

Giovanni Malool: Who says American cars are cheaply made? Have you ever seen a KIA or a Hyundai? When you start out with an incorrect assumption, you just make yourself look stupid. Do some research

Gwenda Micheals: I hear about someone putting sugar in the gasoline tank of someone else. What exactly is this? What does sugar in gasoline do? Does it dissolve and mess-up the fuel system? Does it block the fuel line? Is it dangerous or prank?Just curious. Thanks.

Len Bormes: Lumping all cars into two groups "American" and "Foreign" is ridiculous. Look at reliability records from Ford product! s vs VW/Audi over the last ten years, no contest, Fords are more reliab! le. This statement is backed by real data, not just someones opinion. the bottom line is your argument is way too generic on both sides, Ford and GM and Chrysler are different companies, just as Honda, Toyota, VW, etc are different - you can't paint all American cars with the same brush nor all of the foreign cars....Show more

Solomon Belback: Cars are made through the assembly line, a process that allows rapid and cheap productively of cars. Most car manufacturing only built cars to stay in it's optimum state for about 10 years or 100,000 miles. This is because the car companies want the buyers to come back and continue to buy cars from them. American cars are not made as cheaply as they were in the past though, car makers felt indestructible with the lack of competition in the 70's and early 80's. They would make throw away cars and expect people to just keep coming back to buy sub-par quality vehicles....Show more

Bettye Arre: Hello, I just turned 16 last wee! k and I am taking my driving test on thursday. I have had a lot of experience driving with my permit. I've easily had over 100 hours and half of them at night. I know exactly what to expect on the test but I feel very nervous. Can anyone give me any tips? I am taking it in Westminster, CA.

Wilburn Denice: It's not physically dangerous but it will really F**K up a car. The sugar will mess up the fuel lines and fule injectors. Not a good time.

Blair Abdi: 1. Your browser may not currently be set up to allow non-persistent cookies.....2. The following are not eligible to schedule a driver's test online:a.Any permit that is not valid. b. Oral Special Points tests.3. Same day tests cannot be scheduled for road tests. Written Special Points tests can be scheduled for the same day.4. Retry following the instructions completely...https://www.dot3.state.pa.us/exam_scheduling/eslog...

Violette Vanek: I don't think that's necessarily true anymore. Kia's (for a for! eign example)are pretty cheaply made, but getting better. Ford has mad! e great strides in making really good cars, GM is starting to get better. Chrysler is still lagging.Beyond that, define foreign. Most Honda's and Toyota's are made in America by American workers with American steel. Most Fords and Chevys are made in Mexico or Canada....Show more

Arlen Lopiccalo: American car manufactures are not taxed on imports, they use proven technology and a simple assembly line process, so American cars do cost less. The quality of the vehicles is about the same and buying American cars supports American companies, and provides jobs in America. Even if some of the parts are outsourced the majority of the car is still produced in America, and the headquarters are still based here too.

Arnette Dominici: Lmao wow kid, really? Who says foreign cars are better? Toyota is foreign, but assembled here in US and uses Ford parts, so as MANY other foreign cars. Unless those cars are imported, they're all assembled in US and use a lot of US parts...! its all bout engineering. And there is nothing wrong with American cars...yea some are pieces of crap, but who's to say foreign manufecturer's don't make pieces of crap either? How patriotic of you, jeez...yea, why don't you write bout how we all should buy foreign cars and put our own American fellows out of jobs during such crisis. Grow a brain why don't you!...Show more

Refugio Gastineau: I am tryin to get a schedule for my drivers test and I tried going on the PA dmv site and it can't seem to find any open spots. I figured maybe it was all taken, but it said they make new appointments every tuesday at noon so i checked it out today and still nothing....then I tried calling and after you pick a location it just tells me that there was a technical difficulty and they can't process or whatever...? I called after the dmv was closed is that why? or is there just something wrong with it and do I seriously have to go down to the dmv just to get it scheduled...?

Sta! r Gollnick: The sugar crystallizes and scours the cylinder walls as wel! l as clogging the fuel system from tank pickup to exhaust.

Curt Broadhead: It won't do anything because sugar doesn't dissolve in gasoline. It might plug up the fuel filter, but that's about it. It's an expensive repair job but won't damage anything else (since that's the entire point of the filter to clean out the impurities so the critical engine parts aren't damaged). Thus, the sugar won't even make it into the engine or fuel lines at all.At worst, the fuel tank might need to be removed and cleaned out but that would take LOTS of sugar.

Danyell Rowback: Did you pass?
